February Math Word Problems - 3rd Grade

I am a little late with the valentines. Actually, I didn't plan on making anything, but I was thinking it has been a while since I uploaded a freebie, so I decided on more math word problems which happened to be valentines day related, not all, but some. (Let's see how many commas I can add to that sentence!!) ๐Ÿ˜‰

Now, I retrieved these problems from an old book, so the cost of supplies are in the cents, don't we wish eh? I didn't want to change the amounts as it is sorta fun to look at what things cost back when.

This is geared for the 3rd grade, but you can be the judge with your children's skill level.

It also includes a space to work out the problem and to draw a little something such as hearts, flags, etc., whatever the problem is talking about. This is great for the little artists in your family, the ones who enjoy drawing, but it can be used without drawing anything also.

I hope your children enjoy these math word problems.

Oh wow, let's see, about 5 years ago I converted Olney's math into a workbook for the kids. We were also using Ray's Arithmetic at that time too. This was pre-RC.

While being bored the other day and going through the tons, did I say tons, of files on my hard drive, I came across this ole book. Maybe others can benefit from it.

It includes Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division. I never did get to the chapter on Fractions.

It looks like the pdf didn't save the font I used, so the type is spaced a little odd, but it doesn't take from the workbook. I most likely used a free pdf or one that did not save fonts. Hey, five years ago I was new to all this. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Here is the Teacher's Manual that goes along with the books.

Like all the older stuff on my hard drive, it has my old website address. I don't have the original file, not sure where it is. I wasn't that organized back then. ๐Ÿ™‚

Enjoy,

I made this book mark to go in MaryEllen's math book to help her remember the rules of Integers.

It is funny because I remember when I was learning to add fractions with uncommon denominators in grade school, I just couldn't get it. I remember asking the teacher's aide for help more than once. Then, one day the light bulb just turned on! I remember that feeling well.

I tell that story to MaryEllen and she can't believe I couldn't understand because it came easy for her. Now, I am thinking of the same thing with this positive/negative stuff. I never had a problem with it, but for some reason, it is taking a little longer for it to click with her.

I am hoping this chart will help the light bulb turn on for her.

I hope it comes in handy for you too.

We use Saxon Math, and in the Saxon 76 book, they teach the powers of ten. I thought this handy book mark would be nice so the kids didn't have to keep looking back in the book. They eventually won't have to look anymore, but it is a nice reference for the time being.

I hope some of you will find it useful.

We have used Saxon Math for 2-1/2 years now. The kids began with Saxon 54 and now are in Saxon 76. For the 2011-2012 school year, I made up a log to record their test and timed test scores.

We are still using the one for the tests, but haven't used the timed test sheet in a while. Actually, I don't have the kids do the timed tests.

Saxon Math Test Score Sheet

Saxon Test Score Sheet

ย We use the 2nd editions, and so far, as my memory serves me, with Saxon 54 & 65, there are 28 tests. The kids are currently in Saxon 76, which has 28 tests. I believe the third editions of Saxon 54, 65, 76, & 87 have 23 tests. If you are using a newer version, you can cross through the last 5 rows.

As far as the Grading Scale goes, you can use it or chuck it. In Art Reed's book, Using John Saxon's Math Book, he put a lot of emphasis on their test scores. This is the reason if they miss more than 6 or more, they will have to re-do the lessons and the Supplementary Practice. You can just have them re-do the lessons. So far, we haven't had to do either.

Again, this is made for the 2nd editions of Saxon Math 54-87. If you use the later editions, you can just cross through the unneeded rows. There are 3 pages up to Lesson 138.

I hope everyone's week is going great! I feel much better this week! Yay!

This weeks freebie is geared to the 2nd grade crowd out there. It consists of 17 math word problems. How many of you enjoyed word problems in school? I remember not liking them. ๐Ÿ™‚ Now that I am older, I see the importance of them. The kids really don't say much about word problems...I guess that is a good thing.

It also has an area to draw a picture for each problem. This is great for all those artists out there. MaryEllen and Donnie like to draw all around their math notebooks. That is the great thing about homeschooling because I know they wouldn't be accepted that way in the public school. I do understand why too, because sometimes it is difficult to correct.

Okay, enough jabber and on to the freebie.

This week, I have a simple Friday Freebie. It is a numbers chart I made over a year ago when Donnie was in Saxon 54. The book had him writing out numbers like 326 or 1548. He didn't know how to spell thirty, or one hundred, etc. So I made him this chart for reference. He kept it in his math book.

He no longer needs it today!! Hopefully it will be helpful to someone. I will keep this up as a permanent freebie.
